Keeping It Natural: Organic Or Natural Anti-fungal agents Used In The Garden And Abroad

Anti-fungal agents are compounds or elements that act in a manner that kills fungi. In the context of gardening this suggests eliminating fungus that is harming shrubs and trees or generally interfering with the way your garden is growing. It needs to be recalled that a garden is typically considered a natural environment, and under the influence of diseases, weather and pests. We must realize that it is not possible to control everything that happens in the garden. However, this doesn't mean that gardeners will not do their best to make their gardens as beautiful and productive as possible. This often means attempting to take nature into their own hands.

This brief article will look at natural and organic ways one can use compounds such as fungicides in the garden. This means using non-synthetically produced anti-fungal agents in the garden. A reason to raise this awareness is to help people to realize that toxic and non-organic chemicals used to control fungal problems can have an ongoing negative effect on the food chain. Therefore, it is much safer and wiser to use naturally derived anti-fungal agents if you can source them.

Copper is a generally used natural fungicide, and is utilized in the protection of garden vegetables, fruits and ornamental flowers. Fungus often can be a deadly and fast spreading cause of death of garden plants, and so it must be treated promptly. Using copper is a fast-acting method of taking care of the fungus spores; it incapacitate the enzymes that allow them to reproduce and destroys them off from within.

Other non-synthetic fungicides include the use of sulfur and lime sulfur, which are considered contact poisons. This essentially means that they kill the fungus upon contact which can make them a very good short-term control option. However, the down side of using sulfur and lime is that they also are aggressive treatments and can also do some harm to your plants .

The argument for using natural and organic fungicides basically lies with being friendly toward your plants and the environment. If you are using powerful manufactured chemicals to control pests in your garden then those chemicals are going into the ecosystem. They will be passed thru the food chain and may cause a ripple effect of problems. The bottom line is that keeping things eco friendly makes the most sense.
