When most people think of plants that can survive on little water, and are drought resistant, the only thing that usually comes to mind is the cactus plant. However in reality there are several others which can survive on low supplies of water. These are called xeriscape plants. xeriscape plants

These are in fact ideal for those people who do not have much time to water their garden or lawn on a daily basis. They are also ideal for those dry climates as they are drought tolerant. Thus xerogardening is the ideal choice for those who would still like to have a beautiful landscape, lawn or garden.

Advantages of such flora are many. Besides lower consumption of ground water, maintenance is simple and easy. Nature's resources are replenished and the plants, surviving by taking advantage of their ability to retain rain water, provide us with necessary life sustaining oxygen.

There are many types available to choose from. Hall's Honeysuckle, is a kind of green vine with pleasant smelling flowers. The Windflower, which is a plant that lives for more than two years, flowers in the month of May and can be found in many rock gardens.

Their characteristic long roots penetrate deeply into the ground to stock water. This enables them to grow and flower even if they are exposed to little water. The bushes of this type of flora are fine to medium in texture. These bushes which have green leaves throughout the entire year are one of the most stable species in such class of flora. People that prefer blossoms with many colors, have two good options - moss rose and the California poppy. These bloom with several flowers of vibrant colours.

Some internet research can provide you with information regarding the best types of flowers, shrubs and vines for your area and climate. For those who want low maintenance gardens where water doesn't need to be a top priority, xeriscape plants are often the answer.
